The community holds concerts throughout the season. Kingston was once the largest boom town in New Mexico and is now a quiet village nestled in the Black Range Mountains. Hiking, mountain biking, and camping are popular in the Gila National Forest there. Winston has a general store, a bar, and a post office. There is an old pioneer store which has been turned into a museum, which is next to an RV park. Cuchillo was settled in the 1850s and became a stagecoach stop and resting place for travelers in the late 1800s. These towns are found within 18 and 46 miles of Elephant Butte.
